R&D Engineer

Summary

nVariate seeks a Research and Development Engineer to join our growing team working to develop the world’s first two-way digital thread for design engineers.  Utilizing our patented technology, you will help expand and develop our core technology to allow CAD models to seamlessly integrate with downstream applications such as 3D printing, computational analysis, inspection, AR/VR, etc., while retaining the accurate geometry and metadata created by the designer.

About nVariate

Founded in Austin, Texas in 2016, nVariate was started to commercialize proprietary technology that creates ready-to-use geometrically watertight CAD models for CAE, CAM, inspection, etc. (generically CAx). Existing CAD software produces geometrically non-watertight CAD models that must be “healed” to create watertight CAD models via a costly and inefficient process that degrades model quality. Our technology eliminates this healing and meshing process, which is of substantial benefit to CAx users with complex and/or precision designs in aerospace, automobile, manufacturing, and medical device industries.

Once a feature-based CAD model is natively watertight it can not only be utilized directly by downstream CAx applications, but any changes made to the downstream model can be returned to the CAD software without translation or loss of geometric design intent.  Our unique technology allows us to create a two-way digital thread and maintain a consistent and accurate Model Based Definition.

nVariate offers its employees challenging, cutting edge work, with an emphasis on excellence and product quality.  We believe that:

  • Our work matters, and we are developing technology that will fundamentally improve the fields of design and engineering as well as the lives of its users and the people who benefit from products created by these tools.

  • We must listen to and serve our customers by offering unique solutions that challenge the status-quo.

  • We must pursue ethical practices throughout all levels of our business, even if it means passing up opportunities or loss of margin.

  • Our Employees should be challenged and given the opportunity to pursue work in which they excel and thrive creatively, but also have adequate time to relax and pursue endeavors outside of work.

We offer a flexible schedule and the ability to work remotely from within the United States. Salary is commensurate with experience and benefits are available.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in engineering, mathematics, or related field.

  • Expertise or background in numerical analysis, mechanics, spline-based geometry, and/or computer graphics.

  • Ability to operate independently and tackle challenging technology development and implementation problems.

Characteristics of a Strong Candidate

  • Experience with 3D CAD software.

  • Background in geometric modeling and/or a CAx field such as finite element analysis, additive manufacturing, or metrology.

  • Experience with C/C++, Python, or other software languages.

  • Interest in learning and developing spline-based geometry and solid modeling theory.

  • Willingness to adapt and develop skills that address trends in emerging technology.

  • Eagerness to learn about customer challenges and devise new methods of addressing those challenges.
